What would you do for 6 seconds of perfect bliss?
In Deeply Flawed: The Zombie Apocalypse, a new synthetic drug called Primal is giving users the ultimate rush. There’s just one teensy side effect – a mad craving for human flesh. The creator of this drug is the sinister Prospero. An evil chemist gone Breaking Bad, Prospero seems determined to send the entire city into a feeding frenzy.
The only one who can stop the carnage is Detective Jasmine Kincaid, a cop with good hair and a bad attitude. Beautiful and fearless, Jasmine is up against tough odds – a professional betrayal, a little sister tormented by psychic visions, a hot boyfriend with a shocking secret. Not to mention the diabolical Prospero, who is about to make this apocalypse very personal. For both Jasmine and the city, time is running out.
Deeply Flawed is flawless (pun intended!), it is imaginative as well as suspenseful, and I loved it! Ro Ruffalo is an excellent writer who is well accomplished in the thriller genre; her work astounded me from the very beginning, her original plot, as well as her compelling characters, made me engrossed in this story. I relished in the plot and turned the pages with haste; I was anxious to reach the ending because of how brilliant the story was so thank you, Ruffalo, for writing such a thrilling book!
Deeply Flawed follows the protagonist of the novel, Detective Jasmine Kincaid, and can I just say, that she is brilliant! She is fearless, and she has a striking attitude that leaps off the page, her attitude propels the story forward, and this is the kind of attributes I love in a protagonist. Anyway! Back to the synopsis, the synopsis follows Detective Kincaid as she is tasked with hunting down a madman who is making drugs which could cause a disaster on a global scale. I know this is vague, maybe a little too vague but I am cautious to spoil this book for you because of its brilliance, so I am going to leave my description of the synopsis there.
The story of Deeply Flawed had me entertained the whole way through; I believe this is thanks to the author’s brilliant protagonist, Detective Jasmine Kincaid. I have already spoken briefly about Kincaid, but not enough, so I want to discuss her character more. Her character is driven, and I adore this in a female protagonist, what I loved about Ruffalo is that she made her human, she has her vulnerabilities, and although she appears to be tough, you can see that she does self-question herself and that she is not perfect. I adore reading books with characters that feel real, Kincaid is undoubtedly believable, and I rooted for her the whole way. Ruffalo’s development of her role was phenomenal, she is a multi-layered character and the more you learn, the more you root for her.
Ro Ruffalo is a talented author; there is no question about this. I have already expressed this with regards to her incredible character development, particularly her development of Kincaid, but her progress of her story alone is superb. Ruffalo’s writing keeps the reader on the edge of their seat; her suspense-filled book reminds me of Alfred Hitchcock’s movies; there is a constant feeling of trepidation and a continuous sense of “what is going to happen next?!” as I read this book. I was enthralled because this is how thriller books should be! I was screaming, “yes, finally I have found another great suspense-filled book” so thank you, Ruffalo, for your talent!
To conclude my thoughts on this brilliant, suspense-filled book that is Deeply Flawed, I would say if you are looking for an enthralling book that features a protagonist that is incredibly well-developed then this novel is for you! This excellent book gets Five Stars from me!
