Wednesday Wives Club is a provocative look at four strong, intelligent women taking control of their lives and marriages.
Four women gather every other Wednesday to quilt. Stitching turns to advice when, one by one, they reveal their marital struggles. They encourage and support each other as they set out to save their marriages, and in the process, learn the true meaning of friendship, love, and courage.
Ella has only been with one man, her husband. She was married and a mother at seventeen, and has everything she thought she wanted; a successful family business, three grown children, and economic security. All that changes when she learns that her husband isn’t the man she believed him to be. Can she accept the adjustments necessary to keep her marriage intact?
Lara is a trophy wife. She was a young interior designer when she wed a rich and wealthy computer software developer. Seven years later, her business is flourishing and she’s yearning to start a family. Her husband has other ideas.
Alisa inherited her father’s chain of hotels and married for love. With her son away at boarding school and her husband’s frequent business trips, she is bored. She believes going to work is the stimulation she needs. Her husband proposes an intriguing alternative. Dare she accepts his provocative challenge?
Brenna thought her husband was happy and fulfilled. Married when they were young, they have two adult children, and are financially secure. This is the time when they planned to enjoy their lives together. While cleaning out his jacket pockets, she discovers her husband craves something different.
How far will the women go to save their marriages?
Wednesday Wives Club is a charming, intricate, compelling story that entertained me from the very first page. Literary fiction is one of my favorite genres, so when I discovered Wednesday Wives Club I was thrilled, this book at first appears to be your typical literary fiction novel, but it is so much more than that! It is an intricate look at four women’s lives, the reader is thrust into their lives, and it makes for a brilliant, exciting read… one that will keep you hooked until the final page!
Wednesday Wives Club follows four, unique women who all have their issues. We support them as they meet, every Wednesday as they quilt and talk. As the reader reads their dialogue, we soon learn that they are all having issues with their husbands, their husbands are having what can only be described as mid-life crises. Brenna is one of the wives and she believes that her husband is seeing a dominatrix. Ella’s husband has a mistress and has asked her if she can move in. Lara’s husband wants her and him to join a swingers group, and Alisa’s husbands wants her to arrange a menage a trois; I have to admit I did not know what this was at first but Google came to the rescue! This is the plot of this novel, as we learn about their husband’s mid-life crises and their marriage issues, we start to learn how much their wives will do to save their marriages.
Wednesday Wives Club is a quirky, unusual book but it is genius and already a classic for me. I loved the collection of stories within this book and the themes which were explored, the themes combined with these stories were expertly woven together to make one brilliant literary fiction book. One factor which I find essential with literary fiction books and that is excellent character development. The character development in this novel was superb, it surpassed my expectations and floored me with how in-depth it was. I loved how each character and their marriage was explored individually, every story is written wonderfully and discussed eloquently.
To summarise my thoughts on this brilliant, compelling, unique novel, I would say if you are looking for a literary fiction book that will keep you entertained from beginning to end then this brilliant story is for you! This excellent book gets Five Stars from me.
