For Caleb and Liam, a pair of close-knit brothers who have trouble fitting in at school, the Southwest desert around their home offers a place where their imaginations can run wild.
But as their explorations take them farther from home, a sinister darkness begins to invade their happy adventures — a darkness that is far more real than what their imaginations can conjure up. And when they collect souvenirs from an abandoned house that turn out to be powerful talismans connected to a mysterious shadow land, strange events and people begin intruding into their lives. Along the way, the brothers acquire some new friends — including two ghosts and a reclusive neighbor — who give them valuable insights into the darkness they are fighting.
Will the evil from the shadow land gain control over Liam and Caleb so that the doorway to Earth remains open? Or will they learn to keep the secrets necessary to survive and become free from the evil that is attempting to absorb them into its dimension?

Desert Shadows is an incredible, terrifying novel that shocked me to my core and installed fear in me on more than one occasion; it already for me is an unforgettable read and one that I adored on a huge amount. As well as its story being thrilling, it was also original and bold and unlike anything, I have ever read. It really is that incredible and I would implore all of you lovely readers to read it!

Desert Shadows has an intriguing and very different plot that captivated me from the very first page. I am conscious to not talk too much about the plot of this novel because it is brilliant and I would not want to spoil all the brilliant and terrifying things that happen between the pages of the novel as it truly is gripping! That is why all I am going to say is that this novel is about the desert,  the supernatural and two brothers. If you want to know a little bit more detail then please read the above synopsis from the blurb of the book as that perfectly describes what this incredible book is about!

The story of this novel is captivating and chilling and never again will I look at the desert in the same way! It really is difficult to talk about this book because I do not want to spoil anything. What I will say is that this novel has many great supernatural moments that will haunt you for days, what happens between these pages is original and thrilling and it would be almost impossible for you not to love this book! Yes, it really is that good.

The novel’s author Joshua Dowidat is an exceptional writer and he has beautifully executed a brilliant, unforgettable novel. His novel may be haunting but do not let this fool you as he has also injected some much-needed humour into the book and I really admire Dowidat for doing this. It was necessary I believe because other wise this novel had the potential of being too sinister and serious and that, for me, is never a good thing… besides! The humour in this novel was hilarious and I always love to laugh and smile whilst reading! It truly is an expertly written novel that sucked me in from the very first page and it kept me entertained and enthralled until the very last page.

One thing I noticed about the authors writing early on was that he is a descriptive writer. His writing is so descriptive that I was able to picture a vivid image in my mind, his descriptions of the storms that take place, in particular, were breathtaking and very realistic which was surprising to me. I adored how the author took the route of being realistic with these descriptions because I would have hated it if it was not so thank you Dowidat in general for writing such a brilliantly executed novel!

As well as Desert Shadows being incredibly well written it was also unputdownable and just when I thought I could put it down due to tiredness, something incredible would happen that I had to keep reading! It is like this the whole way through; just when you think the novel cannot get any better or that there seem to be no more shocking moments, the reader is then shocked again as the author takes the reader on many twists and turns to keep the reader satisfied until the very end!

To summarise my thoughts on Desert Shadows, I would say that if you adore supernatural books that feature chilling moments and many incredible things then you will adore this book! This wonderful book gets Five Stars from me!
