A FEW INCHES. A MISSED SHOT. A CHANGED WORLD.

It’s January 1964. A twist of fate has saved the life of President John F. Kennedy and changes the arc of history. Political intrigue and infighting roils Washington in the wake of the assassination attempt in Dallas, and a wounded Kennedy returns to the White House to face a growing crisis in Vietnam that threatens America’s Cold War strategy. The president doesn’t trust the information he is getting from Saigon, where the military is engaged in a shadow operation to make things seem better than they really are.

So he turns to the one man he does trust: Lt. Colonel Patrick O’Shea. A decorated combat veteran of Korea, O’Shea has been plucked from obscurity to be Kennedy’s military advisor and is tasked by the president to figure out what is really going on in Vietnam.

The knives come out as O’Shea grapples with myriad threats to himself and the president he serves. The Pentagon, the CIA, the Corsican Mafia and the Chicago Mob are all conspiring against him.

Fate has handed John F. Kennedy a new lease on life. How will he use this opportunity to deal with the divisive and destructive issue of Vietnam? Will he escalate the war or get out? Tens of thousands of lives hang in the balance!

The Two Gates is a thrilling, all-consuming novel that grasped and captured my attention from the very first page! The Two Gates is flawless read, and I can’t help but be madly in love with it; I adore novels about John F. Kennedy so it was no surprise that I would love this book. However great fiction books about JFK are hard to come by so when I discovered The Two Gates I was thrilled! Finally, I knew that this book was going to be excellent and that I had found a great fiction JFK novel; the cover and the description grabbed my attention straight away and when I read the first chapter I was sold!

The Two Gates is a historical fiction book that can only be described as an alternate history novel. Ken Davenport asks the reader the question “What would Kennedy have done in Vietnam if he had not been killed?” this is the premise of this wonderful book that is full of political and military intrigue. I have always had a fascination with JFK and so have regularly read biographies of him as well as watch tv shows and movies about him. I have always pondered the question what would have happened if Kennedy did survive that wound or whether there was no assassination attempt and clearly, Davenport has considered this question too. His conclusion to what would have happened is fascinating and makes for an exciting, thrilling read!

The incredible story of The Two Gates is a fast-paced novel that will keep the reader entertained; Davenport places the reader in the midst of the action very early on, and I have to say, I loved this! I love when I am thrown head first into a novel; I adore to be shocked and entertained without a long build up, so I admire this! Davenport has perfectly created scenes of the decade, so much so that you feel as if you are right there. There are chapters in which the reader is placed in rooms with high ranking general, politicians, and military personnel; these were my favorite scenes because they were compelling as well as well-developed. I felt as if I was in the room, I felt that I could smell and even taste the cigar smoke and this is all a sign of a pure literary talent.

To summarize my thoughts on the thrilling novel that is The Two Gates; I would say if you are a reader who Is tired of reading the same old books that are lackluster and forgettable then take a chance with this brilliant book because I promise you now that you will not be disappointed! It is a novel that has everything the reader would want in a read and so much more; it has spine-tingling good content, dynamic, memorable characters, a charismatic author that writes beautifully and wonderfully so and lastly it is an all-around, interesting, unforgettable read that you will not be disappointed if you choose to read it.
