It is 1951 and a remote mining village on the North Staffordshire Moors is hit by one of the worst snowstorms in living memory. Cut off for over three weeks, the old and the sick will die; the strongest bunker down, and those with evil intent will bring to its conclusion a family vendetta spanning three generations. Inspired by a true event, ‘The Soprano’ tells the story of Grace Holland – a strikingly beautiful, much admired local celebrity who brings glamour and inspiration to the grimy moorland community. But why is Grace still here? Why doesn’t she leave this staunchly Methodist, rain-sodden place and the isolated farmhouse she shares with her mother? Riddled with witchcraft and tales of superstition, the story is mostly narrated by the Whistler family who owns the local funeral parlor, in particular, six-year-old Louise – now an elderly lady – who recalls one of the most shocking crimes imaginable.

The Soprano is one creepy, thrilling, shocking book and I loved it! This book is the perfect occult/horror book, it has revenge and witchcraft… do I need to say more? It really is a captivating, thrilling book that floored me with its shocking nature. I do not read horror books as much I would love to but I am so thrilled I have read this one! It has put me in the perfect mood for Halloween and I adored it! I can’t speak highly enough of this book, I adore reading about the occult, especially witches, they have always fascinated me from a young age so I really am obsessed with this wonderful book!

The Soprano is a fast-moving, unnerving tale that thrills and excited you the whole way through. When you read this book you feel as if something bad is going to happen… well, you know something bad is going to happen, there is a sense of foreboding and I admit it is scary… Stephen King scary but it is also thrilling and exciting.

The synopsis of The Soprano is thrilling and compulsive and covers a broad period of time. It is spine-tingling good and tells the story of a tight-knit family in a mining community in England. The story is narrated by the different family members and it makes for such a fascinating read. I adore reading books with multiple narratives, it makes for a thrilling read, an exciting one and so I adored this about the book. Because the plot of this novel is so brilliant I am cautious to spoil it for you lovely readers so what I will say is that this novel focuses on a family who has done something very stupid… make a deal with the devil and this is what The Soprano is about.

The author of The Soprano, S.E. England is an exceptional writer who is well-accomplished in the horror genre. Her beautiful prose and lengthy, stunning descriptions captivated me. What I adored most about England’s writing is that the novel was atmospheric, there is a real dark atmosphere that surrounds this book and it is terrifying. Like Stephen King, England knows how to create an atmosphere and how to build an amount of anticipation for the reader. She keeps you on the edge of your seat with all of this as well as her riveting plot and exceptional writing. She really is a talented wordsmith who is clearly passionate about her work and that is always lovely to sense.

To summarize my thoughts on this thrilling, terrifying novel that is The Soprano, I would say if you are a reader who is looking for the perfect occult/horror read who is also looking for a great book as Halloween is soon then please take a chance with The Soprano, you will not be disappointed!
