For Sabrina Murdoch, volunteering for national guard duty was a point of civic duty. However, her tour in Iraq left her tattered but still standing. Unfortunately, events she couldn’t control when she returned home left her battered and adrift. Leaving her small town Massachusetts roots in the rear view mirror, she eventually takes on the duties of a deputy sheriff in the splendid isolation of western Colorado. There in the high country, surrounded by mesas and sage brush, Sabrina finds home, friendship, and the spark of a new love as she wrestles with the demons of a tragic morning back in Iraq.
As a Presidential visit to the region draws close, a series of small events conspire to undermine some of Sabrina’s hard-won confidence and erode her spirit. At the same time, a NATO sniper team thousands of miles away in Iraq has stumbled upon the makings of a terrorist plot right in Murdoch’s back yard. A firefight leaves them stranded, with no way of communicating details of their find to their chain of command. For them, it becomes a mile-by-mile struggle to return to their base and send out the warning.
As Mike Buffalo and Brad Hall battle their way across the hills of Iraq, a war that left indelible scars on the mind and in the heart of Sabrina Murdoch is on a collision course with her new life and her new home. She left the war behind years ago, but now it has followed her to Montrose County, Colorado.
Montrose County is a thrilling, incredible, memorable military/thriller novel that kept me on tenterhooks from beginning to end. I have to admit, I am completely in love with this book; I knew I was going to love Montrose County, but I did not think I would enjoy it this much. As I read this book, it continuously surprised me, the twists and turns galore shocked me and the brilliant literature enthralled me. This combination was the perfect one, and so I was kept reading into the early hours of the morning. That is why I have to recommend Montrose Country for all those that love thrillers and military fiction because this incredible book is brilliant!
Montrose County follows the protagonist of the novel, Sabrina Murdoch as she goes on a journey. Sabrina is a woman who served in Iraq, but her tour has left her with scars, both psychical ones, and emotional ones, but she is still standing. When she returns to her home in Massachusetts, she sadly incurs another terrible situation, and so she decides to move to Montrose County in Colorado to take up a job of being Deputy Sheriff. However, Sabrina’s past soon haunts her and this combined with a deadly terrorist plot forces her into action and this book lovers is the premise of this fast-paced thriller.
In my review I have already written that I adore this book and adore it I do; I love this book for many reasons, but one of those reasons is that this book features a female protagonist. Female protagonists are of course not unusual to come by these days in the world of literature but they are in military novels, so I applaud the wonderful author, Bill Greenwood for writing such a compelling female character! Sabrina is a wonderful character, and Greenwood has perfectly written her so that her narrative jumps right off the page into the reader’s mind. She is believable and convincing, as well as this the reader will be able to find themselves rooting for her, and these three components always make a brilliant protagonist.
Bill Greenwood is an exceptionally talented author whose words read flawlessly. His in-depth, descriptive literature which is spiked with adrenaline is simply sensational. His literature compelled me to read from beginning to end, and as I did I read each word carefully and even re-read sentences because I did not want this wonderful book to end! I was engrossed, and because I was, it shows you that Bill Greenwood is a talented, well-accomplished author whose work is not to be missed.
To summarise my thoughts on Montrose County, I would say if you are looking for a brilliant military piece of fiction that will keep your heart pumping with adrenaline the whole way through and keep you grasped from beginning to end then Montrose County is definitely the book for you! This exceptional book gets Five Stars from me!
