Reference books are a genre I love! I love learning, especially about topics which I do not know much about so The Board Game Designer’s Guide has made for the perfect read. I admit I knew this book was going to be great because I already fell in love with the author’s blurb in which he laces humor throughout it but! I admit, I worried that it would be too technical of a read. However, I was soon disproved of my thoughts as Joe Slack surprised me time and time again with his brilliant book and so, if you are a reader who adores games… has an idea but does not know how to bring it to fruition then I implore you to read this fantastic book!

The Board Game Designers Guide is the perfect tool for those that have a board game idea but do not know how to bring it to life. Joe Slack, however, does know how to do this and he wonderfully shares his knowledge throughout the pages of his book. Joe Slack will inform his readers over 220 pages, in 27 chapters on how to bring your board game to life! He takes his readers on a guided journey on just how to do this, he inspires his readers by stressing the importance of staying focus and continuing no matter what but as well as this, he also provides the reader with useful information. Joe Slack provides knowledge on how to generate income from your game, how to market it and tips for getting your game  published or, self-publishing if somebody cannot see that your game is brilliant!

Joe Slack organizes his book and his 27 chapters into easily readable sections that you could easily jump from one chapter to another if you did not want to read in chronological order. The fact that Joe Slack has written his book in an easy to read way, in perfectly designed sections is brilliant to me; it shows that Slack wants to make his work available to the masses… he wants to inspire and help. Because Slack has written his book in such an accessible way, I would recommend it to both adults and young adults as it is incredibly easy to follow and that is coming from somebody who previously had no clue on how any of this worked! I think that The Board Game Designer’s Guide could be used for reference in technology classes at school as well as used in the family home. Now that I think about it, this exceptional book could be the perfect tool to bring a family together to build a game and to share, creative, imaginative thoughts!

As The Board Game Designer’s Guide is an easy to follow, useful, informative guide that could be read by just about anybody, I would recommend it for everybody and implore everybody to read this book and be inspired! Creativity is a wonderful tool, and Joe Slack will inspire you to be even more creative; he is a talented, descriptive writer whose words feel personal. He will flawlessly take you on a journey on how to build the perfect game and bring your brilliant ideas to life. As I love this book, I, of course, have to award The Board Game Designers Guide a dazzling Five Stars!
