In Nothing to Fear and Outback Hero, Max is on a family holiday in outback Australia.
Three times Max faces death. Three times, Charlie, Max’s older brother, saves him. Charlie is a hero.
Max desperately wants to be one too.
But you can’t plan to be the hero.
A couple of weeks ago I reviewed an incredible children’s book called Max’s Revenge; Max’s Revenge is an impeccably well-developed children’s story that will delight and entertain young readers. Outback Hero is book two in The Max Books, and I was so excited to read this as I knew it was going to be brilliant as Max’s Revenge was terrific! I am so happy to write that as I have now finished Outback Hero, I can happily write that Outback Hero is just as, if not more brilliant than the first book so please, if you are looking for a great children’s book series for your children then already I implore you to buy this one!
Outback Hero: Max Conquers Outback Australia follows the hilarious protagonist of the story, Max as he and his family travel to the outback for an Australian adventure. Max, however, despises the outback and wished he did not have to go, he is afraid of almost everything in the outback including crocodiles… he hates these, and his older brother Charlie knows this. Older brothers love to taunt their younger siblings and Charlie most certainly taunts Max about all the crocodiles and dangers ahead. Max’s parents, however, assure Max that nothing is going to happen but when Max falls overboard into the water which is full of crocodiles, he can’t help but think they were wrong.
Max and his brother Charlie will soon go on an adventure in which they will have to learn to survive, as danger lurks around every corner as they will encounter many life-threatening situations. The premise of the novel is just this, and due to the many adventure/action-packed moments, young minds will be entertained and enthralled from beginning to end.
One of the many things I loved about Outback Hero, is the author’s wonderful descriptions of the dangerous situations. She writes her text in a detailed, but also simplistic way so that young readers will be able to perfectly imagine the scene without being bombarded with too much information. As well as the imagery in Outback Hero being visually stunning, so are the themes laced throughout this novel; themes such as sibling rivalry (which even adults will be able to relate to), competition and of course a ton of adventure!
Sally Gould is the perfect writer as she balances all these themes perfectly throughout her book which is hard to accomplish in any story, let alone a children’s story! As I am madly in love with this book and think it is the perfect read for young children, I have no choice but to award this stunning piece of fiction Five Stars as it will entertain and humor young readers for hours on end!
