This is life and nothing is predictable.
Nothing Is Predictable is a novel (which could be defined as creative non fiction inspired by true events) unlike anything I have read before; the unique and moving nature of this contemporary piece of fiction made Nothing Is Predictable a delight to read and an incredibly memorable one that I will struggle to forget for a long time. The story is heart-wrenching at times while at other times it is inspiring as well as eye-opening. This is thanks to the poignant journey of one young woman as well as the impeccably well-developed story courtesy of the wonderful author Adalina Mae. Nothing Is Predictable is a novel that in 2017 won the Silver Medal award from Readers Favorite and now as I have finished reading this book, I can happily write that Nothing Is Predictable is worthy of this stellar honor as the book is incredible.
Nothing Is Predictable follows the protagonist of the story, Zara. Zara is a young girl who has experienced a significant amount of suffering and pain in her life, and the reader will get to read all about this throughout Zara’s journey to happiness and love. Zara is a U.S. citizen who was born in Los Angeles to Lebanese parents, and because of this, she felt like an outcast in her community and felt oppressed from a very young age. Growing up is hard enough but Zara’s upbringing was even worse as Zara’s father was an alcoholic who in his angry moments of rage, would beat Zara’s mother and terrify Zara. However, at the tender age of only eight years old, Zara’s father accidentally shoots himself in his drunken ways and this is a turning point in the story which will ignite change in Zara and set her on her course.
What follows is an endearing, moving, and poignant story that follows Zara on her journey to happiness and discovering herself. The reader will follow Zara as she struggles to form relationships, especially with men and struggles to overcome the childhood memories that haunt her every day. When the reader reads this novel, they will find along the way that the plot unravels bit by bit, revealing more and more about Zara and her horrific childhood and the trauma she experienced… trauma such as violence and even sexual abuse. Despite Zara’s horrendous abuse she has encountered, she has a fighting spirit with a ton of determination to succeed in life and succeed in a relationship, despite many failures.
The story of Nothing Is Predictable is quite simply sensational as well as heartbreaking. Nothing Is Predictable is a book that deals with many poignant and upsetting themes; themes such as violence and sexual abuse as well as loss and grief. All of these topics are weaved perfectly together, and the outcome is a beautiful piece of literature that will stay prominent in readers minds for many weeks upon completion. The themes explored (such as the ones written above) are themes that are not usually explored in literature today, this is because these topics are not openly discussed for fear of upsetting somebody or causing discomfort to anyone. That is why I applaud Adalina Mae for her braveness to write about such topics in the most sensitive and eye-opening of ways. Mae does not shy away from such subjects, she instead fully embraces them and openly discusses them through the vessel of her novel – Zara – so that she can spread awareness and get the message out there to readers. This is one of the many qualities I adored about this novel as I always love when a book weaves an essential theme throughout its work so thank you Adalina Mae for writing such a poignant piece of fiction.
Zara is an incredible protagonist, and I have to applaud Mae on her characterization and creation of her. Zara is a woman who at first will strike the reader as a bubbly and fun woman who has never once encountered cruelty but as the reader will learn, this is not the case at all, and instead, Zara has experienced the worst kinds of abuse. The fact that Zara was written in such a way made me love her even more because many women are like this. Some of the most depressed humans are the ones who are actually the saddest, however, they just hide it well by being the life of the party and so on and so Zara is a believable character for this.
Adalina Mae is a phenomenal writer and worthy of her Silver Award from Readers Favorite. Mae’s prose engrossed me very quickly thanks to the poignant themes she explores as well as the gripping narrative of Zara but what also gripped me was her sensitivity to the heartbreaking subjects. The sensitivity and passion in Mae’s words were admirable and kept me turning the pages quickly as I desperately wanted to read more of her exceptional prose.
Mae is not only flawless at exploring touching themes but also excellent at describing the places and events the reader comes across. The story of this book is one that will take the reader on a journey across many countries. Mae manages to perfectly describe each country the reader comes across so that he/and or she can feel as if they were right there at the moment… I know I did!
