Rhys Falkrow, and his younger sister, Alina, were born on Caelestis, a colony located in the Solar System Hyperes. For generations, the people of Caelestis lived in peace, working together to consolidate resources and knowledge to create a unified race of humans whose sole purpose was to advance mankind.
After a collision with a rogue asteroid though, the colony is tossed into chaos and Rhys and Alina are ushered onto a malfunctioning Life Pod. Unable to stop the cryo-preservation protocol, both are placed in suspended animation as the spacecraft hurtles toward an unknown target deep in space.
They awaken some later to find themselves on Earth, the cradle of humanity, alone and without guidance for the first time in their lives. Now, Rhys and Alina must navigate the hostile, new world and learn what it really means to be human. Having been raised in a mock-utopia, how will they cope with the harsh realities of their existence and those of the people they encounter?
Rhys of Earth is a stellar piece of science fiction that will keep readers entertained, excited and thrilled until the very last page. Science fiction novels are the perfect reads to escape into but only if the world is developed to an excellent standard that effortlessly whisks the reader away. Most science fiction novels in my opinion do not have this… however! Rhys of Earth most certainly does as Wilson’s sensational piece of fiction is imaginative, creative and incredibly well-developed!
Rhys of Earth follows the protagonist of the novel, Rhys Falkrow, and his sweet sister, Alina. Rhys and Alina may be human but they were both born in a colony in a solar system named Hyperes. The colony located in this solar system is a beautiful one in which values of peace, knowledge and the enhancement of mankind are prominent. It could only be described as an oasis. However, not everything will always be perfect and when an asteroid destroys their deep colony spaceship, Rhys and Alina find themselves having to flee but when there life pod malfunctions and they are not able to be put under cryo sleep; they soon find themselves crash landing on Earth.
Earth is not what it is now, it is a planet which was abandoned centuries ago and so Rhys and Alina must learn to survive in the hostile world which is so foreign to them and this book lovers it the premise to this brilliant novel.
The story of Rhys of Earth is magnificent; I thought the story of the book in which two siblings must learn to survive in a planet which essentially created them was fantastic and unlike anything I have read before. Rhys of Earth, however, is so much more than just a science fiction novel, it has religious and philosophical undertones laced throughout the story which adds another layer of excellence to this already excellent book. The story never once becomes stagnant, the remarkable author, Kara D. Wilson, effortlessly makes sure that the reader is entertained and enthralled from the first page. She does this by including incredible plot devices such as twists and turns, in-depth background knowledge and phenomenal writing.
Wilson is a talented writer who is well-accomplished in the genre of science fiction. What is more than this is that she is a passionate writer and these words of hers shine off the page and into the reader’s minds/hearts. Wilson captured and captivated me perfectly and this is because of how outstanding her writing was. Her characterization of the two protagonists of the novel is exceptional, and so they were perfectly developed and jumped right off the page.
To conclude my thoughts on this exciting novel I would say if you are a reader who is looking for a brilliant piece of fiction that will captivate and entertain you early on and take you on an unforgettable adventure then this incredible book is for you! Rhys of Earth gets Five Stars from me!
