I wasn’t always a terrible person, in fact, there was a point when I was captain of my high school cheerleading squad, and student body president. So when word got out that I was currently withdrawing from opiates on the floor of a jail cell, people in my town were shocked—to say the least. Not because of the 27 felonies I’d acquired, or the nature of my crimes, but mainly because my boyfriend was a Sheriff Deputy, and his friends – our friends – were the ones who’d arrested me.
I spent 120 days in a jail where every officer knew what I had done to their ‘brother in blue’, and despised me for it. After a few suicide attempts, cavity searches, pillow fights and lesbian love affairs, I made my way to a residential treatment center. It was there that I recounted the harrowing events leading up to my arrest, and eventually began the process of recovering from a life of addiction. Leaving rehab wasn’t the end of my story, instead it was the beginning of a chapter more beautiful and surprising than I could have imagined.
Whether you are currently sitting in jail feeling lost, in a rehabilitation center seeking hope, or struggling to understand a loved one who is suffering from addiction, “High Achiever” reads like fiction, and will give you a shocking, honest, and at times humorous look inside the mind of a drug addict.
High Achiever is a poignant, incredible, moving piece of non-fiction that will help, inspire and above all, captivate its readers. High Achiever is an influential, powerful book because it deals with issues of addiction; for those that have or are struggling with addiction, will find this book incredibly useful and inspiring as it is written by somebody who has struggled. For those that know somebody with or who have had an addiction, they will be enlightened and will understand this condition more and know that it is not as easy as you may think to just stop. Overall High Achiever is a moving book, one that everybody should have the pleasure of reading.
High Achiever is an honest, powerfully written book written by the incredible Tiffany Jenkins. Jenkins takes her readers on the journey of his life and most importantly, her journey through addiction and rehabilitation. Jenkins is brazen with her writing and writes with poignancy; she explains to his readers that her life was turmoil because of her addiction and that she actually spent time in jail because of the after-effects of it. Jenkins lost just about everything because of her addiction and Jenkins is honest without shame about this, she bares her soul to her readers, and I admire this so much. Jenkins does an expert job of letting her readers know the state of her mind and how addiction controls every aspect of your life. However, although Jenkins takes the reader on an honest journey of her life, she also lets her readers know about her recovery from addiction and how treatments, as well as help, can change your life drastically. Jenkins is now a recovered woman, who I am sure still struggles, but she has found the strength to overcome her addiction, and this is powerful to read about. That is why Jenkins is admirable for writing a book which will appeal to a wide range of people. It is a book that will be useful for addicts or people who have suffered from addiction, and it will be helpful for those that need information on this subject and the mindset of an addict if you know somebody who is struggling.
This book is a superb self-help book; the author’s candor, as well as the information laced throughout his book, is quite simply remarkable. Her compelling story can change lives, and that is triumphant in my opinion.
Tiffany Jenkins is a remarkable person for two reasons, the first is because she is honest and brave to write her story and the second is because she is an exceptionally talented author. Her impeccable writing is a joy to read and flows beautifully throughout so that the reader will feel compelled to read non-stop. She is a pure literary talent, and so I applaud her for being so brilliant!
To conclude my thought on this insightful, informative, inspiring book, I would say if you are a reader who is interested in the topic of addiction and or depression and coming out the other side, then this book is for you. High Achiever gets Five Stars from me!
