A compelling crime drama and poignant love story about a devoted man who must confront the painful legacy of his war-torn childhood when he is wrongfully accused of murder. Michael Kieh’s struggle to prove his innocence leads him on a charged journey that pitches the pursuit of justice and the search for love against the instinct for revenge.
Michael is the chief suspect in a murder at one of the world’s busiest airports where he is a full-time faith representative. A series of brief encounters with a soul mate has eased his loneliness and together they come close to uncovering a past major crime, but ultimately he chooses to protect a young witness who could prove his innocence. When he was a child, Michael witnessed appalling abuses of power, including the killing of a missionary priest who refused to betray young Michael. But there was a first love that he left behind in the brutal confusion of war. When she and Michael cross paths once more, they battle to prove his innocence in a foreign, hostile country. Can they solve the mystery before it is too late?
A Burning in The Darkness is a novel that has floored me with its thrilling, compelling, engrossing nature. The story of this book is unlike anything I have read before and a true crime drama that is reminiscent of some of the best crime books of all time. As I begin to write my review, I can’t help but think that A Burning in The Darkness would make a superb Tv series. The story is one that evolves and changes continuously and each chapter played out like a mini-episode in my head so already I have to implore you lovely readers to read the preview of this book because I know as soon as you do you will be hooked and wanting more!
A Burning in The Darkness is a dark and intricately developed novel which follows Michael Kieh. Michael has been on a tumultuous journey and the reader gets to follow him on his journey from his youth to his adulthood. Michal Kieh sadly witnesses the slaughter of his entire family as a young boy in Africa and the murders were committed by his uncle and it is safe to say that his hate for his uncle is prominent. However as the reader witnesses Michael grow, we soon discover that he has become Father Michael Kieh and is now a man of God who runs a multi-faith chapel in a busy airport in England.
Father Michael Kieh listens to the confessions of those passing through but one day, he receives a troubling confession from a murderer and this in turn sets of a chain of deadly events. The police are soon in contact, wanting to know the confession but Michael is a man of faith and will not break the sanctity of confessions. Although Michael’s intentions are good, they are not wise as he is soon placed in jail on suspicion of murder but this is just the beginning of this story. What happens next is a truly shocking story that will captivate as well as terrify readers but rest assured that A Burning in The Darkness is not all doom and gloom. The story laced throughout this book is actually a love story that all revolves around a dark theme; it is a novel of light and darkness and it makes for an engrossing read that should not be missed.
The story of A Burning in The Darkness is one that captivated me from the first page. I found myself instantly hooked to this book thanks to the author, A.P. McGrath’s superb prose, and phenomenal characterization. Father Michael Kieh is a character the reader is able to immediately root and invest in; his troubling story and his upsetting background is incredibly upsetting but he is a character that is inspirational as he has been able to overcome such events and that is incredibly poignant to me.
