The Dovenar Kingdom’s ancient walls still stand firm after 650 years against the attacks by the Altered Creatures. However, a civil war has left the kingdom without leadership.
Now the provinces are struggling to fend for themselves against local dangers, while Ambrosius reaches out to all species in order to unify them against a much greater growing threat. Gathering leaders from across the lands into a hidden location for a secret Grand Council meeting to determine a course of action, the mighty Ambrosius is betrayed by one among them. Escaping just in time, he is severely injured as all of the other members in the council are killed.
As the lone survivor, he enlists a local hunter, Thorik Dain, to help find the traitor and prevent future attacks. Unfortunately, word has spread that it was Ambrosius who murdered the council for his own desires of power. Finding evidence that validate the rumors, it is up to Thorik to determine who to trust, who to follow, and who to stop from reaching the next point of destruction.
Fate of Thorik is a dramatic fantasy novel written by the fantastic author Anthony G Wedgeworth and wow, what a brilliant start to a series! Fate of Thorik is book one in a six-part series called Altered Creatures and I have to confess book lovers that I fell in love with this book before I even started reading it thanks to the glorious descriptions that allude to a magical adventure. If you readers know anything about me by now then you will know that I love adventures and I also love when I get to follow one character on their journey and Fate of Thorik definitely weaves these two attributes. Before I even continue my review and let you lovely readers know more about the book, I have to recommend the book for you to read, especially for fantasy fans who adore out of this world novels like the Lord of the Rings series so get reading!
Fate of Thorik is a multi-layered plot full of many magical beings and many spectacular events. The reader early on will be introduced to the protagonist and star of the novel called Thorik; Thorik is only sixteen years old, but he has been through a lot as his parents died but now he is being taken care of by his uncle. One day Thorik stumbles across a man who is injured as well as unconscious, Thorik, being the good person he is decided to help the stranger and so he brings him back to his home to restore him to his former health. What Thorik does not know at this point is that the man is incredibly important and together they will go on a journey. The reader will soon be told that the stranger is a man called Ambrosius and Ambrosius – when conscious again – tells Thorik that he needs his help to get him to the Mountain King’s Temple but despite Ambrosius not yet fully healed, he agrees. Thorik and Ambrosius with five others, go on a journey to the Temple but along the way, they will encounter many beings and encounter many tricky situations because Thorik will soon discover that not is all that it seems and this book lovers is the premise of the exciting novel.
The story of Fate of Thorik is an incredible one that is guaranteed to keep readers entertained for many reasons, but one of the core reasons is because the plot is thrilling as well as unpredictable! The unpredictable nature of the story honestly kept me on edge; as the novel unfolds the reader will learn new truths and some of these will be very shocking. The reader will think things such as “no way, that cant be!” and “really?!”, This is precisely what I thought while reading Fate of Thorik and let me tell you now book lovers that it made for a genuinely entertaining story… one that should not be missed!
Anthony G. Wedgeworth is the author of the Altered Creatures series, and it was clear to me from the description of Fate of Thorik alone that Wedgeworth has a real passion for fantasy and when I started reading the book I knew he had a talent for writing fantasy also. I believe that Wedgeworth is the perfect author to write fantasy because what I learned from his literature is that he is a visual writer who likes to describe his scenes in details and be vibrant with the details and descriptions. The detailed narrative and descriptive literature in the novel lit my mind with amazement, I would read some of the descriptions and find myself re-reading the sentence once more because it was too good not to! That is one of the main attributes I love about Wedgeworth’s literature, but I also adore his superb characterization of Thorik. The protagonist of the story always has to be well developed because they are the vessel but sadly I have read many books that have weak protagonists but not Thorik! No, Wedgeworth ensures that his star of the novel is a well-developed character with plenty of backstory to pull readers in and keep them captivated until the very end.
As Fate of Thorik is a sensational, thrilling and highly addictive novel, I, of course, have to award the first book in the Altered Creatures series a dazzling five stars! So please book lovers, have a read of Fate of Thorik and keep checking back here because I will be posting my review of book two in the series in the next few days!
