When Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) enters a home everyone is affected by it. So often children are left upset, with a lack of understanding and wondering what’s going on. This story is for those children who have PTSD in their family, giving voice to their experiences, emotions, and worries. This book should help give a child a sense of understanding and empowerment that PTSD is “nobody’s fault,” and “it’s not cuz of me.”

It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me is one of the most exceptional, poignant and astounding children books I have ever had the pleasure of reading with my children. It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me is a book that explores PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) in the most honest of ways; PTSD is a topic that is not openly discussed because of how emotive it is and because there is not much understanding about it. What discussion there is, however, is only focused on adults, I can’t recall ever coming across a PTSD book or even leaflet that explores teaching PTSD to young children. That is why It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me is a sensational book because it informs young readers on PTSD and will help young readers understand the topic better.

It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me is a book that explores PTSD within the family unit, PTSD affects not only the person who suffers but also the rest of the family unit including the spouse and children. It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me is a beautiful, touching story that explores PTSD and does so in a way that children will be able to understand it better. As the description reads, many children will become upset by the one in the household with PTSD because they do not understand their actions and why they are doing what they are doing. It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me is a children’s book that helps children understand PTSD so that they can learn about it and know that it is not their fault with regards to the person being upset and that really, it is nobody’s fault and that everybody needs to work together to help each other.

The story of It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me is a touching one that made me feel emotional at times. Young children are innocent, and they do not know about the harshness of the world, and they certainly do not know about war and its after-effects on a person’s mental health. They do not also know that PTSD does not just affect those that have served in the military because it can affect anybody, from all walks of life. It can affect somebody who has been in a traumatic relationship, it can affect those serving in their homeland (such as police officers and firefighters), and lastly, it can affect those who have been in an incident or event that caused great stress, be it a robbery, kidnapping or assault, etc. My point is that PTSD is widespread and it can happen to anybody, that is why It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me is a unique and inspirational book because it informs young readers that PTSD can happen to anybody.

Daphne L. McFee is an author whose book I love; never before have I been so delighted to discover a children’s book. I am always on the lookout for the next best read for my children and to recommend to fellow parents and so when I discovered It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me I was shocked as well as surprised. I was shocked because never before have I come across such a book that explores these topics. The fact that the book is aimed at children in the family unit is phenomenal, and I appreciate McFee for writing the story and helping readers from all over the world better understand PTSD.

Daphne L. McFee is not only a remarkable woman for bringing such an important topic to light, but she is also a sensational writer. McFee’s easy to read prose that is quick and straight to the point as well as delightful will charm and bewitch young readers and even adults. I found that even though the book is for children that I enjoyed it; I enjoyed it because throughout the literature an abundance of passion is evident. Passionate books make for the best kind of read and It’s Not Cuz of Me has to be one of the most passionate I have ever read because the reader, even young readers, will be able to sense that the topic is close to the author’s heart. McFee clearly wants to do the topic and book justice so that readers are both entertained and informed and I am happy to write that she has accomplished this.

Overall It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me is an outstanding children’s book that will delight its readers and inform them of topics that every reader, no matter your age should know about and so, I have to award this delightful read a dazzling five stars! If you are a parent or know children in your family unit etc, and are looking for an entertaining but poignant read for them, then It’s Not ‘Cuz of Me is the book for you because never will you come across a better one.
