Caroline Lay has spent the last six months coping with physical changes she can’t begin to understand. She’s changing into a halfling—half-faery, half-human. When her existence becomes too tormented, she comes to the one place where there may be hope, an enchanted island in the Irish Sea called Annwn. Here, she is thrust into a foreign realm led by the infamous magician, Merlin.

Beautiful, headstrong, and lethal, Rowan Hamilton is a hero among the fey, and one of four known members of the elite guard sangréal. But with gruesome clan attacks mounting, the dreaded prophecy begins to unfold. Tortured physically and emotionally by his bond to Caroline—the mate who doesn’t yet know him—Rowan helps her discover who she is while trying to protect her from becoming the ultimate pawn in a realm being torn apart by those seeking her power.

Thank you so much for your kind words! The Grail has been seven years in the making, and though many circumstances and experiences have changed, the characters have been a constant. I have always been drawn to character-driven novels, and that is what I’ve set out to create. Since this is book one of a trilogy, I feel as though I have the time to really develop these five main characters, with book one really serving to set the stage and act as an introduction. As a reader, I enjoy mythology-based fantasy plots, I minored in Classics and have always loved folklore, specifically tales of old England and Ireland. I also prefer books that throw me right into the action and challenge me to keep up and trust the author to provide context when needed. That’s what I did with The Grail. I incorporate certain phrases and different languages throughout, but tried to present enough context that hopefully as readers, you will not feel the need to interrupt your experience to look something up. A few fun facts: all of the faery types mentioned are pulled from actual folklore, I did not make any of them up from scratch , though I did embellish some of their powers or physical traits. The Thirteen Treasures of the Isle of Britain were believed to have been real treasures of power. And Annwn was first referenced in Welsh folklore and thought to be similar to Heaven.

I hope you all enjoy this book as much as I loved writing it. I hope you can find at least one character to connect with and find yourself pulled along a journey you never expected. Thank you all for your time.
