After Trina’s beloved dog dies, she swears she’ll never get another one. But then she learns about service dogs, and realizes that if she becomes a puppy raiser, she could train puppy after puppy and never worry about them dying. But like all great ideas, this one has a serious flaw: her first service puppy must be returned to his kennel at the end of their week-long summer vacation. And saying goodbye to Sydney is going to be much tougher than she ever imagined.

Trina’s last week with Sydney is made that much harder by her newly strained friendship with her best friend, Sarah, who’s become so over-the-top boy crazy that she’s almost like a stranger. Sarah is determined to have them hang out with every boy at the beach, but when a boy named Chase takes an interest in Sydney and Trina, it puts an even bigger strain on the friendship.

It’s hard enough to deal with losing Sydney, but now she may lose her best friend, too. And even if she manages to patch things up with Sarah—and figures out what to do about Chase—she still must face a daunting decision: is she strong enough to take on another service puppy?

Seven Days to Goodbye is an emotional novel, especially for those that love dogs and have had dogs or those that currently do. I have always had dogs, and when one of them passes, it is terribly sad because they are a member of your family unit. Seven Days to Goodbye explores the loss of a pet, both by the death of the dog but also having to return the dog. Seven Days to Goodbye is a story that explores this and wow, it was emotional book lovers and I admit, this is usually not a novel I would read because I hate thinking about a pet dying but for some reason Seven Days to Goodbye captured my attention. Even though I knew that it would be an upsetting story, I also knew that it was going to be a moving one that will show a different side to owning a pet and so I was determined to read it and I am so happy I did!

Seven Days to Goodbye will introduce the reader to the protagonist of the story, Trina. Trina’s dog sadly passed away, and she swore that she would never get another one, but then she learns about service dogs and how wonderful they are and how they help so many people. From this point onwards Trina decides that she is going to be a ‘puppy raiser’ and will raise the service dogs and train them so that they are suitable for service. However, Trina will soon come to realize that this is not going to be the best plan for her emotionally because at the end of the week, she will have to give the puppy back and it will be like losing a dog all over again. Matters are not helped when Trina is already struggling with emotions and personal relationships, especially her friendship with her best friend, Sarah. This friendship is strained, and it affects Trina even more. What follows is an emotional, moving and inspiring story that will show you the true power of love, dedication, and friendship and if you readers love the sound of this then please do read the book because it is mesmerizing.

The story of Seven Days to Goodbye is an incredible one for many reasons but one of the main reasons why I loved Seven Days to Goodbye so much was because it explores the use of service dogs and stresses their importance. My husband is a Marine, and I know what a fantastic job service dogs do for people, especially for those who become disabled fighting or those who need a companion to help combat PTSD. That is why I really admired the author Sheri Levy for exploring the use of service dogs throughout of her book because it highlights what an integral part they are to somebody’s rehabilitation and how they can help wound emotional and mental wounds.

Seven Days to Goodbye is a breathtaking novel and one that will entertain and captivate readers from beginning to end. What I loved so much about the story was the author’s exceptional ability to take the reader on a journey effortlessly without a struggle. For a contemporary piece of fiction to be successful, the reader has to be taken through a host of different emotions and believe them and in Seven Days to Goodbye, the wonderful author Sheri Levy accomplished this.
